Meditate for Beginners ? Learn The Easy Way

How to meditate for beginners may seem complicated but it’s not that hard at all. If you want to make meditation a part of your life you will need to go to a seminar (this is often rather expensive) or get a course online this is often much cheaper and it hands you the opportunity to learn the basics and lets you find out if meditation is really something for you before you decide to attend a seminar.

Take these 4 steps as an introduction to meditate for beginners.

1. Pick a quiet spot. Find a nice, quiet space where you won’t be disturbed for a minimum of 15 minutes. Such as in a forest as an example. The natural environment will allow you to feel relax, including the birds and the wind running through your hair, or even in your own home you can create such an environment.

The beach or a green spot in the woods is my preferred choice because it makes it easier to use your imagination and listen to the music simultaneously.

Sit down and lay your hands in your lap. It’s not necessary to force yourself into a position that is not comfortable and that you cannot sit in without having pain. You can sit on a carpet or on any chair with your feet relaxed on the ground..

Make sure your back is straight and you are not hurting yourself.

2. Breath slowly and deeply. Close your eyes and start by breathing slowly inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Nice and easy. Take your time to breathe slowly and deeply.

3. As you are calming down, your body will start tickling. You are getting reaction from your body and mind. Just let it happen. When you are breathing intensely, you’ll begin to feel calmer and more relaxed. Keep concentrating on your breathing. If you have trouble focusing count your breathing from one to ten and then start over again.

If you find focus back. It will happen |especially in the beginning|several times especially in the beginning|occasionally at the start}. keep being positive, it will improve fast. As you develop more focus power, you will find it easier to concentrate.

4. After 15 minutes open your eyes and stay in your position for a few minutes. get up and stretch your body a little and try to hang on to the feeling for as long as you can to keep enjoying the relaxed feeling as long as possible.

Do this exercise each day if possible to help you relieve stress from a busy day. This exercise will put you on the way to becoming a different more relaxed person. Get your life back.

This is only the beginning, there’s much more to learn about meditation.

  2. MrMatthew554 says:

@Simon0 don’t lay down then, and do it in a well ventilated or lit room, it’s not point in meditating if you don’t do it properly otherwise your just having a kip, and not meditating. Be gentle on yourself, but don’t be a slacker, otherwise your get no where with meditation.

I remember listening to a few of this dude’s talks years ago. Never new what he looked like. Wow, he looks like a swinger from the 70′s. LOL. But still very cool thoughts. He’s awesome.

“…as if your supported by the chair or cushion…” Wait this chair isn’t actually supporting me?

This guy’s meditation tapes helped me get through the death of my father. Om Shanti Om to Jack Kornfield.

  9. rootvalue says:

That’s not necessarily true. The spinal cord controls natural reflexes that occur beyond the mind (or more literally, the brain). Bypassing your spinal cord is true meditation.

  12. Simon0 says:

DONT SLEEP!! YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO ME MEDITATING!!

    Nah im just kidding.

  13. Simon0 says:

yah that makes sense to me. it might make things a little easier or a little clearer. but there is still stuff other than meditation to do.

but yah i think you are right, but these are just my opinions i.e. i could be unclear/wrong on this! but its just my understanding.

  14. ultimategoobah says:

well so..would meditation be a way of making such things easier to do? like helping to deal with anxiety, for example, so it is easier for you to practice socializing..if that were an issue for you, for example.

  15. ruzickaw says:

oh thanks, i did not know that it was not Kornfiled but somebody else in diguise.

  16. loversandmystics says:

This is a video about awareness and meditation, not combat or martial arts. There are many styles of meditation. George Lucas was no dummy when he created a character like Yoda.. Nor was the universe in ignorance when it created a Ramana Maharshi. Masters come in many guises. And the ones who look smallest are often the greatest of them all.

  20. bunkerrr5 says:

Will somebody who has it please post the meditation technique of Harold Sherman? It combines relaxation with imagery and intention, and it is very effective. Thanks.

  21. killlagger468 says:

this is some real hippy shit! koolies i like meditation. i can sleep better now! =D

  22. WantstobeMrsDarcy says:

I have a guided meditation CD, Jack narrates and I get so relaxed I fall asleep!

  23. Simon0 says:

The books by Jack Kornfield I have found interesting. For example (in my understanding anyhow) you cannot necessarily escape everything through meditation like I used to think you could (or if you can escape it, you can only do so temporarily). Some things stay there and might need psychology or other methods, or practise with socialising and stuff like that. Thats my understanding.
